Correspondence, Reports, Program Files 1965-1978

This series comprises records generated or retained by the Sisters'/Deaconess Council of the Deaconess Community of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA). They are from 1965-1978 with the bulk dating from 1974-1978. Record types include business correspondence, printed reports, a manual, and circular letters. "Notes from the Deaconess Council" are summaries of deaconess council meetings, usually compiled by the council secretary, and distributed to sisters. Records marked "questionnaire responses" were solicited by the deaconess council from the sisters of the community to get their opinions on the structure of the community and types of community leadership, the directing sister or executive secretary. The bulk of the correspondence folder is letters to and from the deaconess council chairperson. Some of the correspondence is circular letters to the deaconess council. This series includes reports from various committees and task forces either established by or responsible to the deaconess council. Examples include a garb committee, and task forces on finance, community life, and the deaconess community board. There is also one edition of a deaconess council manual dated 1976. Files are arranged alphabetically.
